Conscious Inclusion and Unconscious Bias Workshop
Unconscious bias affects our daily decisions and interactions profoundly. Yet, simple awareness isn’t enough for true change. Our workshop goes beyond identifying unconscious bias and aims to help you build conscious inclusion. This workshop equips participants with practical knowledge and confidence to combat unconscious bias.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand the profound impact of unconscious bias in our environment.
- Explore how and why stereotypes, assumptions, and biases (both conscious and unconscious) shape our interactions and decisions.
- Become familiar with various types of bias and how they manifest in everyday situations.
- Recognise how personal experiences shape worldviews and learn strategies for embracing diverse perspectives.
- Identify the impact of micro-behaviours and learn how to use micro-affirmations to counteract negative behaviours.
- Commit to actively creating a consciously inclusive workplace through mindful behaviours and conversations.

Workshop Outline
Starting the Conversation: After a quick icebreaker, participants will reflect on their own experiences with bias and consider its impact on themselves and others. A video brings this to life, highlighting how bias can manifest in workplace settings, and its impact.
Decision-Making Dynamics: Biases influence both quick (intuitive) and slow (rational) decision-making processes. Using the “Candle and Matches” activity, participants will examine these two systems of thinking. We’ll discuss different types of bias, including affinity, benevolence, and confirmation bias, and their effects.
Worldview and Perception: By exploring their “Inner Circle of Trust,” participants will understand how their perspectives are shaped by personal experiences. They’ll learn about conscientious curiosity and how to engage with diverse opinions and viewpoints. Participants will also identify their first actionable step to be added to their progressive action plans.
Micro-Behaviours Matter: We introduce the concept of micro-behaviours – subtle gestures and comments that influence interactions. Participants will watch a video scenario to understand the lines between intention and impact, unpacking the effects of micro-behaviours. They’ll then reflect on practical steps they can implement beyond the workshop.
Practicing Conscious Inclusion: Participants will explore what conscious inclusion looks like in practice. What behaviours should we see? What conversations should we hear? We’ll discuss the benefits of a consciously inclusive environment and outline the stages of conscious inclusion, providing practical tips for prioritising inclusion and actively shaping the workplace.
Action Planning for Inclusion: The workshop concludes with participants creating personalised action plans. These plans will outline specific steps to apply the learned concepts in their professional and personal interactions, ensuring continuous progress towards conscious inclusion.
