Embracing Brave Conversations Workshop
This workshop addresses the complexities of difficult conversations, especially those masked as ‘banter’ or involving sensitive issues like bullying and harassment. It promotes open discussions that respect diverse perspectives. we will explore when to speak up, how to overcome the ‘fear factor,’ and the best ways to respond constructively. The workshop also highlights the role of active bystanders in addressing inappropriate behaviour.

Workshop Outline
Courage in Communication: The workshop begins with a group activity reflecting on past experiences with difficult discussions. We’ll explore the fear factor and discuss when to speak out. Participants will examine effective communication styles, focusing on active listening and non-verbal cues.
Building Trust and Emotional Intelligence: Participants will learn about creating safe and brave spaces for open dialogue. We’ll discuss psychological safety and techniques for managing emotions in sensitive situations. Emphasising empathy during challenging conversations, participants will set their first actionable objective for their personalised action plan.
The Art of Feedback: This segment covers giving and receiving constructive feedback, teaching participants to provide specific, timely, and actionable feedback. It also focuses on receiving feedback gracefully. The “Wait a SEC” technique offers a method to handle inappropriate comments and behaviours constructively.
Active Bystander Intervention: Participants will discuss the role of an active bystander in promoting a respectful and inclusive environment. They will learn how to recognise inappropriate behaviour, intervene safely, and support colleagues who are targeted. Practical techniques and real-life scenarios will be used to illustrate effective bystander intervention.
Creating a Personal Action Plan: The workshop concludes with participants finalising their personalised action plans. Guidance will be provided to develop specific steps to apply the concepts and skills learned, integrating these strategies into daily professional life for sustained development and impact.
