DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Leading with Inclusion for Senior Teams Workshop

Format: WORKSHOP
Participants: Up to 15
Duration: 3 Hours
With actors: No

This hands-on workshop is designed to help participants explore inclusive leadership, power dynamics in the workplace, privilege, psychological safety, and the current culture within their organisation. Optionally, a pre-workshop culture diagnostic can be included to gather valuable data insights that will inform the conversation. Leaders will gain a deep understanding of unconscious bias and consciously inclusive leadership. The workshop concludes with the development of personalised action plans to ensure each leader is equipped to drive meaningful progress.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Develop a strategic approach to diversity and inclusion, understanding the difference between equality and equity.
  • Gain insights into their leadership styles and their impacts on behaviour, interactions, and decision-making.
  • Explore power dynamics, privilege, and psychological safety, learning how to ethically use power to build trust.
  • Identify the elements of an inclusive culture and learn to address barriers to inclusion.
  • Analyse team dynamics and organisational culture to determine effective practices and challenges to EDI within their organisation.
  • Leave with a personalised action plan aimed at promoting consciously inclusive and psychologically safe work environments.

Workshop Outline

Seeing the Big Picture: An activity illustrates how focusing on minor details can cause us to miss the overall picture, highlighting how personal experiences can blind us to the perspectives of others. This discussion emphasises that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to inclusion.

Understanding Equality and Equity: Using visuals, participants will explore the difference between equality and equity. Practical examples of equity will be discussed, and leaders will reflect on equity within their organisations, using these insights to set goals for their action plans.

Leadership Styles and Inclusion: Participants will examine various leadership styles – transformational, servant, transactional, and inclusive – and their effects on inclusion. They will identify their preferred styles and understand their impact on interactions.

Power Dynamics and Psychological Safety: Leaders will uncover power dynamics, privilege, and the role of promoting trust. The “Power Up/Power Down” activity will illustrate different manifestations of power and introduce conscientious and empathetic leadership practices. We’ll consider the link between psychological safety and trust, innovation, and collaboration, and participants will add to their action plans.

Building an Inclusive Culture: Leaders will define what an inclusive culture looks like and why it is essential for success. They will reflect on potential barriers to inclusion in the organisation, such as bias in decision making, systemic inequities, and cultural misunderstandings. They’ll begin to piece together a roadmap for inclusion in their context.

Driving Conscious Inclusion: In the final part of the workshop, participants will conduct an Inclusive Leadership Self-Audit, reflecting on their leadership skills, values, and biases. They will create an actionable plan to drive continuous growth and embed inclusive leadership practices.
