Workshop Outline
A New World: The “New World Rules” interactive activity places participants in scenarios with unfamiliar communication norms, building empathy by highlighting the barriers neurodivergent individuals might face with typical communication practices in the workplace.
Introduction to Neurodiversity: Participants will gain a foundational understanding of neurodiversity, exploring neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia through interactive discussions. They will learn how people perceive, process, and respond to the world differently.
Challenges and Strengths: The workshop explores the lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals, discussing how workplace norms can act as barriers. Emphasis is placed on reframing the narrative to recognise the strengths and contributions of neurodivergent employees, promoting a workplace that values diverse abilities and perspectives.
Inclusive Communication: Building on the “New World Rules” activity, participants will examine how communication styles, comfort zones, and boundaries influence workplace interactions. They will learn how small changes, such as using clear language, allowing extra processing time, and considering sensory differences, can enhance inclusivity.
Reasonable Adjustments and Support: The workshop will cover practical accommodations for neurodivergent employees, including flexible working hours and sensory-friendly environments. Legal frameworks and considerations, such as reasonable adjustments, will be discussed using case studies.
Action Planning for Inclusion:The session concludes with participants developing personal action plans to promote a neuro-inclusive environment. These plans will outline specific objectives and strategies for continuous learning and improvement.
